1. Introduction
These are a series of videos discovering the influence of technology on humans. In order to talk about technology I need to use technology. Therefore I am using the Internet as a tool to gather videos. All the videos are credited here.
2. Nature
Nature and technology are closely connected. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish nature from technology, as they are increasingly becoming intertwined.
3. Technology
Humans need technology to survive. Technology has altered the way we think and changed how we see the world. Technology gives people the tools to relate and connect to the world.
4. Simulation
It has become increasingly hard to make a judgement about how real our world is. Our experiences are in a lot of ways simulated, virtual, planned and increasingly abstract.
5. Machine
Technology has the ability to lead its own life. I created an installation that shows how technology is able to become a next nature of its own.
6. Conclusion
The last installment of these series about the influence of technology on humans. A review of the discussed topics and a small glance at our future.
Machine-made researches, questions and experiences the impact of technology on humans. In our daily lives we find ourselves in the midst of a technological world. Technology gives us the means to connect to our neighbors, friends and people on the other side of the world. Technology connects, enriches and estranges our world. Not just today, but from the very beginning of mankind.
Machine-made is a six-part documentary with a duration of 90 minutes. It is composed of pre-existing videos and information sourced from all-over the internet. Each part of the series ends with a small experiment in which I question technology, and sometimes even try to outdo technology. The documentary ends with one last experiment. An installation in which technology tries to capture its own nature.
